Post Office Closed Due to Mold
OTHO, There has been a severe mold problem (stachybotrys) that has shut down the post office in Otho (O’-tho) since early December. Now, residents have to travel eight miles away to Fort Dodge to get their mail. Postal officials are looking at solutions, but they say the Otho post office won’t open anytime soon.
One idea is a new post office. However, six other Iowa sites are ahead of Otho on the list, so it could be awhile. Until then, temporary boxes are set up in the lobby of the Fort Dodge post office for Otho customers. This doesn’t make Otho residents very happy, especially during the cold winter months.
Stachybotrys has been linked to permanent immunological, pathological, psychological and neurological problems. Some of the concerns with stachybotrys are destruction of the myelin sheath, which research has shown indeterminate exposure can lead to autoimmune disease.
